Switching to QuickBooks Online (also known as QBO for short) from QuickBooks Desktop software has been a challenge at times for some of our clients. Not all commands are where they used to be. To make things easier for our clients, we recommend taking advantage of the shortcuts feature in this application.
So, what are shortcuts?
Keyboard shortcuts are a combination of keys used to directly execute a command, rather than trying to find it from a menu or on a navigator. For those using a Windows PC, the sequence begins with CTRL-ALT plus a specific key. For those using a Mac/iOS device, the sequence begins with the CMD ⌘ key.
After using QuickBooks Desktop for many years, clients find their biggest challenge when switching to QuickBooks Online is to enter credit card charges. While that command was an icon on the QuickBooks navigator, in QBO you must perform three commands (under Expenses) to get to a general expense screen, and then choose the credit card option. On the other hand, a user can get to the exact screen needed using the shortcut key CTRL-ALT-X.
