Time Matters is a feature-rich on-premises contact, case, calendar, and document management application. It remains one of the premier products for practice management. I have been installing and supporting Time Matters since version 5, and Crosspointe has been a Certified Independent Consultant for Time Matters since 1999.
The ‘collaborative partnership’ forged between LEAP Software and #TimeMatters has made Time Matters appear to be unsupported. On the contrary, Time Matters remains a viable application for many firms, and the app’s support team remains in place. LEAP is exclusively a cloud application; for those who prefer control of their own servers and document repositories “on premises”, along with local storage of their data, Time Matters is a viable option
Several things distinguish Time Matters among its on-premise competitors. First, the traditional approach of rows and columns is the ‘white box’ of your data. There is no hidden information. For folks who like ‘what you see is what you get’ Time Matters is transparent. Other competing products tend to be somewhat ‘obscured by clouds’ (shout out to Pink Floyd).
While attorneys have a ‘one case at a time’ approach to matter management, paralegals thrive when they can apply a single transaction to multiple matters. In Time Matters, you can create a task, event, billing item, or even a mail merge, and then apply it to multiple matters. Each matter will have its own record. Way cool.
In addition to money, name, calculated, and lookup fields, you can also create custom fields and custom record types. Any and every benchmark or process you need to collect data on can be mapped and implemented with no programming expertise required.
The customization of lists, tools, and other tools for specific user displays makes the Time Matters experience a curated one. “One size fits all” systems with little or no customization capability lack user identity and can be a barrier to engagement. If you are still using this software ‘out of the box’, a quick call with our team can open many doors to improve performance and efficiency.
The ability to send all your lists to MS Excel remains one of those ‘ah-ha experiences’ that users never tire of. Virtually everything in Time Matters can be exported. You retain full and complete control of your data.
Time Matters now ships with #BillingMatters, and with an active Annual Maintenance Plan, you can have Billing Matters turned on at no additional licensing cost. You will likely need some setup assistance to implement Billing Matters, however; we have implemented Billing Matters for many clients, and can help you get the most value from this application, when integrated with Time Matters.
I recently implemented a new Time Matters customer. I cleaned, formatted, and migrated all of their data from an MS Access database and set them up with custom views, saved searches, mail merges, and more than a dozen workflow triggers. This level of customization is not easily accomplished in competing on-premise or Cloud-based products.
Time Matters remains alive and well, and continues to perform reliably for law firms and legal agencies. If you have the product, call us for a haircut, we’ll give you a free hour of support if you designate Crosspointe as your consultant-of-choice. if you are new to practice management software and are looking for an on-premise application, Time Matters should be prominent on your review list.
I joined Crosspointe Consulting Group to support data migration efforts, which have become increasingly important as firms move to other products, either on-premise or Cloud-based. Data is mostly agnostic, and can be migrated if you are careful to thoughtfully plan the effort. Crosspointe has a wealth of product and operational systems knowledge, and many years of experience supporting law offices in their use of technology. Give us a call at 877-375-2810 or email us at [email protected] if you are interested in learning how we can help your firm harness technology to improve your office operations.
