LexisNexis Time Matters is a very powerful, comprehensive case/practice management system. Sage Timeslips is an extremely versatile and powerful billing and accounts receivable system. Each does its own job very well. Harnessed together, they become even more powerful, automating time entry and streamlining the process of creating Timeslips billing records.
All transaction records in Time Matters have a date, description, and duration attached to them. Those records also have a “billable” checkbox, and a “send to Billing” icon. With these little items present, it is possible to create a Timeslips billable slip record from a Time Matters transaction record. Here’s how:
Start with any transactional record in Time Matters (I will use the phone record as an example). Complete the fields on the screen and click the “Send to Billing” button on the record toolbar. This will create a Time Matters – not a Timeslips – billing record.
If your system is configured to integrate properly with Timeslips, you will see a screen like this one, with the data from the phone record transferred, and the appropriate Time Matters record values “matched” with the required Timeslips slip record values.
Click “Send to Billing” from the Time Matters billing record, and the data will either be transferred directly to Timeslips to make a time slip pre-populated with all of the Time Matters values, or will be queued in a Time Matters billing list, for later review and transfer to Timeslips in bulk.
With either method, you will be capturing time spent, and already recorded in Time Matters (To Do’s, Events, Notes, Email, etc.), making it available for billing directly from your Timeslips billing system. Some configuration is required in Time Matters to set up the integration properly, and some thought will need to be devoted to “matching” Time Matters classification codes with Timeslips activity codes. Once configured correctly, however, very little user intervention is required to transfer all of that billable time from Time Matters into Timeslips
