Staff from Crosspointe Consulting Group attended the 2025 ABA TechShow in Chicago on April 2-5, and came away with various findings and impressions. Paramount among those findings is that AI has completely penetrated the law office software marketplace, in almost every way imaginable. Here are key takeaways from a few of our consultants.
Lexis AI – reported by Haig Hovaness
Lexis AI is an advanced legal research and drafting tool powered by generative artificial intelligence, designed to streamline the workflow of legal professionals. The application offers natural language search, enabling users to ask complex legal questions and receive accurate, on-point answers with cited sources. One of its standout features is the ability to generate first-draft legal documents, such as memos and clauses, based on trusted legal content from LexisNexis. Additionally, Lexis AI provides rapid case summarization and document analysis, helping users quickly identify key legal arguments and precedents. The platform emphasizes transparency and trust by surfacing source links and ensuring responsible AI usage, ultimately
- boosting productivity,
- reducing research time,
- and increasing confidence in legal decision-making
At the 2025 ABA TechShow in Chicago we saw a demonstration of Lexis AI in which the product produced research and a draft letter supporting a claim of employment discrimination. The draft letter to the client provided arguments and citations that could be the basis of a successful legal action.
Clio Duo – reported by Dana Riel
The 2025 ABA TechShow in Chicago celebrated it’s 40th year with an acknowledgement of that milestone. And this year, one of the major themes was “Everything AI”.
Clio’s offering in this area is Clio Duo, a legal AI tool powered by the latest Microsoft Azure OpenAI GPT-4 technology that works inside Clio Manage. This approach uses your firm’s data to improve decision-making, caseload visibility, communication, and compliance. Examples of its uses are: automating tasks, creating tasks, scheduling calendar events, adding time entries, and drafting responses.
Because Clio Duo works inside of Clio Manage and with the firm’s data, users don’t have to worry that it provides results based on outside, questionable sources, nor that the search engine results are exposed to outside organizations (like Microsoft). The Clio team demonstrated its uses by responding to clients’ email requests, scheduling follow-up meetings, drafting documents, and creating entries for billing based on activity.
Bot Mediation – reported by Gerri Martin
I talked with representatives from Bot Mediation at this year’s 2025 ABA TechShow, and watched a demonstration of their software. I liked what I saw. You can learn more about them at https://botmediation.com.
Bot Mediation™ is an AI startup that offers plaintiffs and defendants a speedy, fair, and effective way to resolve legal disputes. Traditionally, mediation disputes have been conducted either in person or via video conferencing. The popularity of remote negotiations, however, has not reduced the cost of private mediation for plaintiffs or defendants.
A bot mediation costs substantially less than a conventional mediation, while taking only a fraction of the time to settle cases. Bot mediations are neutral and never have scheduling conflicts. This AI-driven software empowers litigants to mediate and settle their cases whenever they want to, wherever they want to, and on their own terms.
End-to-End Settlement Solution
Bot Mediation can guide parties to a mediator’s proposal when settlement offers and demands are close to intersecting. If a mediation fails, Bot Mediation can refer your case to a qualified Mediator.
Sophisticated Mediation Toolkit
Bot Mediation offers an immersive user experience, made possible by AI technology to visually guide parties towards settlement. Litigants are in complete control of the process, and can track their progress towards settlement in real time. Bot Mediation can guide parties to a mediator’s proposal when settlement offers and demands are close to intersecting. If a mediation fails, Bot Mediation can refer your case to a qualified neutral.
Elimination of Natural Human Bias
Natural human bias can negatively affect the negotiation process. By leveraging algorithms trained on real case data, Bot Mediation eliminates natural human bias to derive statistically reliable settlements.
The technology is worth looking at. I found the lack of synchronicity between voice and video a little off-putting. Click here for a video example.

Tempello.AI – reported by Jeanine Rhode
Keeping with the theme of the 2025 American Bar Association’s Techshow, I would like to introduce you to a relative newcomer to the AI field. Voted ‘Best New App’ in 2024 by Clio, Tempello AI-Captured Time Entry is an AI-driven technology platform tailored for the legal industry. Tempello monitors your firm’s email system and automatically converts billable emails into detailed time entries in Clio. Tempello integrates with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace to provide you with the following benefits:
- Easy integrations
- Automated email conversion
- Accurate time entries
- Enhanced billing accuracy
- Streamlined workflow
- Customizable settings
- LEDES friendly
Their mission is to optimize law firm operations and enhance profitability. By integrating seamlessly with popular legal management tools, Tempello not only enhances law firms’ efficiency but also ensures lawyers stay connected with clients and matters effortlessly.
Additional benefits of Tempello are:
- Finds unbilled activity in emails, phone calls, and texts, adding 10% to 40% more billable time.
- Monitors emails and texts for key issues like case settlements, client concerns, or deadline changes. Tempello alerts the right people at the right time, helping you prevent problems before they grow.
- Enhances the advantage of using Clio Duo by adding email text into the communications area, making it available for Duo to ‘read’.
In the Tempello dashboard (shown below), time entries are generated directly from your emails in real time, eliminating manual tracking and ensuring no billable email is missed. You can approve entries before sending them over to Clio, or you can switch to automatic mode (upper right corner of the screen) to save even more time. Tempello automatically assigns the correct client matter for each time entry. When there is not a match, Tempello flags it as ‘no match’, adds an explanation, and allows the user to determine what to do with this entry. Manual exceptions can be addressed from the dashboard.
Tempello is a usage-based system. The cost is $0.39 per matched email. averaging about $50 – $75 per month, per user. While the application currently only integrate with Clio, Tempello anticipates adding more case management systems in the near future.
